"Standards of Excellence" was deemed appropriately named when the film garnered two Emmy Award nominations. Produced to encourage potential recruits to consider a career with the Georgia State Patrol, the nominations came for Best Photography, for which it won, and Best Feature (Non-News) from the Southeast Regional Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The film was produced by Atlanta based ImageMaster Productions. Seventeen-time Emmy Award winning Director/Producer Dan Johnson of Image Master was hired to direct the film.
