Magick Snags Honors and Awards

From awards to slick new work, Magick Lantern editors are claiming honors. James Powell, Senior On-line Editor and Compositor at Magick Lantern, won two major awards for an on air promotion for CNN's broadcast of the African documentary, "Return to Freetown" late last year. Honored with an award of excellence at the MCAI MediaFest, held in Atlanta, the promo also garnered a Telly Award as a finalist in the on air promotions category. The promotion was produced by Tracy Bishop of CNN On Air Promotion. Similarly, Magick's Senior Avid and Symphony editor Jesenko Fazlagic snagged a CINE Golden Eagle for "Tribute to NY," a four minute tribute to the heroism of the people of New York in response to the 9/11 terror attacks. The television tribute was produced by Kevin MaGann for CNN On Air Promotion and was edited by Fazlagic. The receipt of a Golden Eagle award means that the honored program can officially represent the United States in International Film Festivals. The award was presented at a gala awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. in February. Saab Cars, USA tapped Magick for help on national campaigns. The Saab project, which was shot on Magick's Studio 750 sound stage on digital Betacam, utilized the firm's Sony wide screen cameras to shoot a Saab 9-3 Sports Sedan on a white limbo set, as well as Saab executives against a green screen for later special effects and backgrounds. Footage from the shoot was then incorporated with Magick designed graphics and other material into a 45 minute presentation that was released nationally on video CD and DVD. Fazlagic and Editor Nancy Rosette worked in Magick's Avid and Symphony suites to complete the job. The complex project involved the original footage shot on Magick's stage, Saab footage, and excerpts from other company productions. Magick also created graphics and animation to round out the project. Audio mixing, music and sound effects were accomplished at Oasis Recording located in the Magick facility. Nationwide Furniture and ad agency CCI commissioned Magick to help break a national campaign for their retail furniture outlets. The producers shot the eight spot comedy package on film, utilizing Magick's stage and a very talented group of Atlanta actors along with hundreds of pieces of furniture. Fazlagic then compiled the spots with CCI Producer Polly Hathorn and Creative Directors Barry and Adrienne Anbinder, and James Powell put the finishing touches on the work with multi-layered graphics and custom tags and slates-one for each of the eight spots, and then again singularly for almost 200 different markets across the country.
