American Experience at Artisan Studios

Artisan Studios was the location recently for Roja Productions, a Harlem based documentary film production company whose past work includes titles such as "A Hymn for Alvin Ailey," "Roots of Resistance," and encompasses work on the "Eyes on the Prize," series. Roja recently shot segments for a 90 minute film about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that will be broadcast nationally on the PBS series "American Experience." The program will premiere in January 2004 to coincide with Dr. King's 75th birthday. Titled "Citizen King," the documentary will be a people's history of the civil rights leader that employs the voices of the many people who walked with him, photographed and reported on him, as well as those who called him "friend" to create a unique insight into the man that only eyewitness accounts can provide. The production team joined the studio team in Atlanta in late April for meetings and interviews, and shot at Artisan's facilities April 30th and May 1st with a high definition package.
