LAB 601's Diamond of a Project

FEEL NEIL, a joint project between Mad Dash Films and LAB 601 was recently screened at the Hot Docs Canadian International Film Festival. FEEL NEIL, produced by David Sarich and edited by Michael Tew, traces the careers of four eerily similar Neil Diamond impersonators and two Neil Diamond tribute bands struggling to find the balance between expressing themselves through their own music and giving the fans what they want. FEEL NEIL meets the musicians, parties with the groupies, finds out what it is to be a Diamondhead, follows the fans on their musical pilgrimages and feels the impact of the Jazz Singer himself. Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival is North America's largest documentary festival. Each year, the festival presents a selection of over 100 cutting edge documentaries from Canada and around the globe. LAB 601 also made quite the impression on the National Association of Broadcasters as the digital post company was prominently featured in Avid's booth at the NAB trade show held in Las Vegas. Avid highlighted LAB 601 in their main stage workflow demonstration to showcase the technical capabilities and proficiency on the Avid DS|HD editing system. The demo showcased "The Sound" by Further Seems Forever, a music video edited, color corrected and conformed by LAB 601. Avid also featured LAB 601 in their montage demo reel, utilizing clips from many of the Lab's HD projects and also featured the LAB team's Atlanta facility as one of the few totally integrated Avid facilities in the country. "We are a truly integrated facility where we employ Avid's workflow from start to finish. We digitize on the Unity shared storage edit in Xpress Pro, Media Composer 9000, do the HD conform and effects in the Avid DS|HD and all of our sound design in Pro Tools" explained David Ballard, President and Senior Editor of LAB 601.
