WRESTLING WITH CINEMA CONCEPTS

Cinema Concepts has been chosen to deliver the answer and release print of Ruth Leitman's "Lipstick and Dynamite, Piss and Vinegar: The First Ladies of Wrestling, " a documentary about the pioneers of girl wrestling, in time for the Hamptons and Chicago International Film Festivals. The film premiered and was picked up for distribution at the TriBeCa Film Festival and won the Best Documentary Story Telling Award at the Nantucket Film Festival earlier this year.

"Lipstick and Dynamite" is slated for release in 30-50 cities in February 2005 through theatrical distributor Koch Lorber. The film shines a spotlight on the forgotten first ladies of the ring. Gladys "Killem" Gillem wrestled women, men, alligators and bears. At 18 Ida May Martinez took to the road to flash the only thing she knew—how to kick, punch and defend herself. The Fabulous Moolah and Johnnie Mae Young live together with midget wrestler sidekick Diamond Lil, and continue to take bumps with World Wrestling Entertainment.

When visiting Cinema Concepts for the first time, Leitman spotted a framed one-sheet of "Wrestling Queen, " a film she'd been researching while making "Lipstick and Dynamite." She was surprised to find out that Stewart Harnell, founder and CEO of Cinema Concepts, had served as the distributor and executive producer on the film back in 1973. "We are thrilled to be able to work with Ruth Leitman, " says Harnell. "We've been following Ruth's career as a an award winning filmmaker for a long time and are so proud to accompany her to theatre circuits."

Leitman received a 1997 Rockefeller Fellowship for her second feature "ALMA, " an intimate and darkly humorous documentary about a Southern family's struggle. "Alma" was included in the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, International Documentary Film Festival Munich, Women in the Director's Chair, HOT DOCS!, Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, Australia Documentary Conference and won the Documentary Feature Jury Prize at the Hamptons International Film Festival. "ALMA" also screened at the Directors Guild of America and The Whitney Biennial 2000.

On a personal level, Leitman expressed how great it felt to be back to Atlanta where her film career began 15 years ago and where this current project started. Having been a part of the Atlanta film community along with producers James Jernigan and Anne Hubbell, Leitman did not hesitate to commend Cinema Concepts for fulfilling the important role of keeping Atlanta a competitive and thriving city in the film industry.
