TBS Unveils Plans for New Production Facility

Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.) announced plans for the construction of a $37 million production facility on its Techwood campus in midtown Atlanta. The new facility will be the largest television facility in the Southeast. Senior Vice President of Production Dan Darling explained, "With last year's debut of our virtual studio, we made a creative and financial decision to compete at an international level. Not only do we have the first permanent installation of a virtual studio, but we are the first to broadcast a live, daily studio show from a virtual set. This commitment continues with the construction of this facility."

The new 127,000-square-foot facility will include four floors with the largest live production control rooms on the East Coast, three studios, and state-of-the-art digital technology. Ground will be broken in March and construction is expected to finish in the third quarter of 1999.
